Digital Materials (incl. TeachCenter)

To provide students with digital materials or to create activities such as polls and assignments, you can use the TeachCenter.

TeachCenter

The TeachCenter is the learning management system of TU Graz. It is linked to the registrations in TUGRAZonline, so course registrations are synchronised automatically. The TeachCenter is based on Moodle – we currently use version 4.1, whose new features are summarised in a TELucation article.

For exams there is a dedicated TeachCenter instance, the TeachCenter Exam. You will find specific guides on the page about digital exams.

Setting up and managing the TeachCenter

If your TeachCenter course has a corresponding course in TUGRAZonline, the registered participants, teachers and tutors are synchronised automatically. You can also add further people to your courses manually.

You can organise course participants into groups and groupings, for example to later provide different tasks per group.

Activities in the TeachCenter

In a TeachCenter course you can upload files for your students (drag and drop is the easiest way). But there are many more activities you can set up in the TeachCenter.

Provide a scheduler in which students book time slots for assignment reviews. Run a poll among students, or create whole lessons made of content and question pages that send students down different learning paths depending on their answers.

The H5P plugin, integrated into the TeachCenter, offers a wide range of task types and interactions.

The Learning Goal Widget makes the learning goals of your course visible to students and lets them assess their own progress. With the StudentQuiz students practise writing their own quiz questions and learn with the questions of others.

Many TeachCenter activities can be graded. All grades are displayed to students in a GDPR-compliant way and can be conveniently exported to TUGRAZonline at the end of the semester.

If you want activities to be available only to certain groups, or to appear only after other activities are completed, you can work with restrictions.

Videos

The Educational Technology unit supports you when you want to use videos in your teaching, for example in a flipped classroom. Teaching and learning videos at TU Graz are hosted on the TUbe video portal and can be managed from the TeachCenter via TUbeDrop.

You can record learning videos on your own device, for example as a screencast (for Linux see this TELucation article), and upload them to your TeachCenter course via TUbeDrop. You can also record videos directly in the TeachCenter with the integrated TUbe Recorder. Professional recordings are possible on request in the video studio of the Educational Technology unit, where different types of learning videos can be produced.

Lectures in the lecture hall can be live-streamed and recorded. During the livestream you can interact with students attending online via a chat. For an overview of all services around video recording and streaming, see this TELucation article.

All videos can be made available to students in the TeachCenter via link or by embedding.

Guides and articles

Open Educational Resources

If you want to create teaching and learning materials with legal certainty, you can create and publish them as “Open Educational Resources” – free educational resources under Creative Commons licences.

TU Graz offers internal training to become an OER-certified teacher. Certified teachers get access to a TeachCenter plugin that makes publishing your educational resources easy, so other teachers can benefit from and reuse the content. Certified teachers also get access to the university’s own OER repository, where OER can be published independently of courses.

Accessible materials

With the integrated Accessibility Toolkit in the TeachCenter you can check whether your course meets certain accessibility standards and is usable for all your students.

Artificial intelligence
